Following the destruction of Ray, the Mongols built a new city on the nearby hill of Hasanabad. This new city, which would later become known as Tehran, quickly grew in importance as a major political and administrative center. In the 16th century, the Safavid dynasty made Tehran the capital of Iran, further solidifying its position as a key city in the region. The Safavids oversaw the construction of numerous buildings and infrastructure projects, including the famous Golestan Palace, which still stands to this day as a testament to the city's rich history.
