Unfortunately, press freedom is under threat in many parts of the world, with journalists facing harassment, imprisonment, and violence for their reporting. Governments and other powerful actors may seek to suppress critical journalism to protect their interests, leading to self-censorship and a chilling effect on investigative reporting. Journalists and media organizations must defend press freedom and advocate for the rights of journalists to report freely and without fear of reprisal. They can do so by joining forces with other media outlets, press freedom organizations, and advocacy groups to push back against censorship and attacks on journalists and to promote a culture of transparency and accountability in government.
