The role of international mediators has been severely diminished, as the traditional "E3" (the UK, France, and Germany) have largely aligned with the sanctions regime, and Russia and China are increasingly seen as opportunistic actors rather than neutral arbiters. Russia’s dependence on Iranian drones for its own military efforts and China’s reliance on Iranian oil have created a complex web of alliances that prevents a unified global front for peace. Without a credible "honest broker" to facilitate de-escalation, Iran and Israel are left to communicate through explosions and missile launches, a language that is inherently prone to escalation and lacks the nuance required for a sustainable peace.
